Now that we are here, I am certain I know why Mike selected this neighborhood for our base for this excursion – it is a foodie’s paradise!<\/p>\n

An overnight dusting of snow in the courtyard<\/p><\/div>\n

We are right off rue Montorgueil, a pedestrian only area of shopping and eateries. \u00c2\u00a0We had been here before, of course, on previous trips to check out markets and market streets. \u00c2\u00a0We even rented an apartment a few blocks away with Shoe, Carol, Lou, and Sandy. \u00c2\u00a0There is even a quincallage or hardware store right down the block. \u00c2\u00a0More importantly, there is a fromagerie (cheese shop), a butcher, wine & spirits, a natural food market, a fishmonger, chocolate shops, pastry shops, and bakeries.<\/p>\n

The fromagerie is still decorated for Christmas on Rue Montorgueil<\/p><\/div>\n

Today was the day for for an omelette for lunch (Cafe Marie Stuart), a stroll to the Seine – at 28 degrees F and with an overnight dusting of snow – even les bouquinistes (those riverside vendors) were closed! A quick warm-up at BHV, the department store with a hardware store in the basement. \u00c2\u00a0I love checking out the latest trends in plumbing fixtures, etc. \u00c2\u00a0Then a hop on the metro to head back to stock up on coffee and water, the basic staples of life, for breakfast in the morning. And, after shopping – dinner out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dinner was at \u00c2\u00a0just down the street at\u00c2\u00a0Aux Tonneaux des Halles\u00c2\u00a0. \u00c2\u00a0Mike had tete au veau! Said he thought he would never locate it on a menu in Richmond and he had to try it once!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
