Walking Paris

The day started slowly, we slept in after our long day yesterday.  Mike took off down rue Rambuteau looking for baguettes and croissants.  He even found peaches at the street market and milk for our coffee.

My black jeans still fit!

I held my breath as I tried on my black, skinny jeans and lo! and behold! they still fit.  Evidently, cranking those locks and sluices on the Lot River counteracted all that wine and butter!

Sandy and Lou took off for the Marais.  Shoe and Carol for Arc de Triomphe. Pat and Mike looked for an alimentarie to pick up other essentials and went on past Tuileries to the W H Smith, English bookstore, since we had forgotten our Paris street and subway map and our Walking Tours of Paris book.  I discovered a beautiful coffee table book, named “The Rooftops of Paris.” At Tuileries, there was a accessory show for wholesalers, at Place St Honore a brocante street fair making me think of Janice and our old Three French Hens days. Rue Rivoli was packed with tourists by the busloads and the sidewalks were jammed.  At Place Vendome, they were filming a commercial that included an orange wire? car.

Is it real or Memorex?

We scooted by Hugo’s restaurant to make sure he was still in business.  He is! We plan on making reservations for Thursday’s dinner for Mike’s birthday. We stopped for lunch at a bistro near rue Croix des Petits Champs: omelet natur and salade for me, croque madame and salade for Mike.  Then, back at Chatelet/Les Halles, where Mike and I recharged our Navigo Decouverte cards for the next week’s Metro rides.

Mike and I were the first to arrive back at the apartment. Soon, Carol and Shoe peeked in; then Sandy and Lou returned.

Sandy's Phenomenal Discovery: Another Toilet!

Sandy made a phenomenal discovery – there is another toilet and sink off the hall to the kitchen!  This will result in less of a roadblock, so to speak, in the morning!

Mike made Kir Royales for all around and we waited for laundry to finish and me to work on this blog post.  The day was characterized by off and on showers, sometimes heavy, sometimes misty, sometimes blue skies.  Who cares? Paris in the rain is better than home…….

Lou and Sandy met Alex for dinner; Shoe, Carol, Mike and I headed down by Les Halles to Leon de Bruxelles for moules and frites.  Unfortunately, the rain increased while we were dinner and we walked home in the rain.  A day in Paris – a great day!
