Valentine’s Day in City of Light

The day dawned cloudy and humid, almost ready to rain, so we decided to spend the the morning at the Musee D’Orsay, stroll over to the Latin Quarter for lunch, visit the Shakespeare & Company, cross over the bridge of locks to get to the l’Hotel de Ville and check out the ice rink, shop along the rue de Rivoli. Yes, it is Valentine’s Day and our 11th anniversary and Paula and Martin’s anniversary.

Check out this bubble being made by a man at Hotel de Ville by the ice rink - pretty big! Wish I could make them this size for the grandkids!

Lovers in Paris put their initials on these locks and bind their pledge of love - as soon as we get to BHV, our locks will be there

After a quick shopping trip down rue de Rivoli, we headed back to apartment to rest up for dinner. Martin and Mike were treating Paula and me to a special St Valentines special at Bistro de la B on rue Bievre on the left bank. We were early arrivers, since we are going to Geneva in the morning and are seated pretty much alone. We joked that the restaurant – the whole restaurant – had been reserved for us. Slowly other tables drifted in, but since we leave at 6 AM for the airport, we got an early start and finished early. We all started off with fois gros de la maison with a coupe of champagne, Paula had fish (a whole bar), rest of us had steak. Meal was topped off with a dessert of molten chocolate cake with white chocolate cream sauce.

Then, quick Metro ride home to an early (relatively speaking bedtime) since we’re off to Geneva, minus our technological aids – so you won’t see an update for a few days, but stay tuned for the fun.
