My Favorite Museum in Paris

Yesterday we clocked in only three and three quarters hours on our brocante and food shopping tour.  Today the morning was brisk and cold but we set off our walking tour beginning at Place Charles-De-Gaulle/Etoile. At the Arc de Triomphe, I pointed out to Martin and Paula the buildings of La Defense in the distance.  We kept up a quick pace to keep warm and trying to stay on the sunny side of the street.

We passed some great architecture! Even found a street market wrapping up! But most stores were closed. We followed the walking tour in the book, walking through beautiful Haussman designed streets, zig-zagging through exquisite neighborhoods with a mix of architecture, lots of gorgeous ironwork, tall grand doors, even a Russian Orthodox church.

We stumbled on a Lebanese restaurant, tried a sampling of dishes: Lebanese sausages (little sausages with sort of  purple color!), falafel, grilled eggplant, a humus-like dip made with grated eggplant, tomatoes with Lebanese cheese, a side order of frites. It was a wonderful way to warm our tootsies and Mike forgot to take photos.

After lunch, we set off again and detoured to a men’s shop where Martin tried on some beautifully tailored suits. But, we misunderstood the sale sign, thought they were 99 euros, but they were 299 euros. When we felt the fabric, we should have known that beautiful fabric and tailoring would be far more expensive than 99 euros!  We set off again for the Musee Jacquemart-Andre, my favorite museum in Paris filled with enough gold/gilt, fine art (Rembrandt, Botecelli, etc.), gorgeous period furniture, tall ornate ceilings, and spectacular architecture to   please everyone. With audio guides we passed a little over 2 hours in the museum, learning its history and learning about the lives of Edouard and Nelie.

The day had turned cloudy and cold, we hopped the Metro back to the apartment, to walk rue Montorguiel to pick up fresh bread for dinner. The shops on the street were mostly closed, restaurants and bistros open. We found a boulangerie and picked up a baguette – that was warm when we bought it. What a life!

We warmed up at the apartment, prepared our dinner from the supplies we purchased Saturday, put on Martin’s collection of music, and caught up on e-mail……clocking in 4 1/4 miles today.
